Guide · The cover letter
The cover letter
Each tailored resume comes with a cover letter for the same job. It uses the same facts as your tailored resume, plus any answers you give to questions the job asks.
Where the letter comes from#
The letter is written the first time you open a tailored resume, on the Cover letter tab. It draws on two things only, your tailored resume and your answers on that tab. Nothing else goes in.
Questions for the letter#
Some things a job asks belong in a letter or on the application form, and not on your resume. Visa sponsorship, where you can work and licences are common ones. We never turn them into resume lines.
The Cover letter tab lists them as questions. Answer the ones you want to mention, and the letter is written again with your answers.
Rewrites#
| What | How many |
|---|---|
| The first letter | Comes with the tailored resume |
| Rewrites included | 2 |
| More rewrites | 3 for one credit |
| Custom instructions | Up to 1,000 characters on tone, length and what to stress |
When the rewrites run out you can still download the letter and edit it yourself.
Downloading the letter#
The letter downloads on its own, as PDF, Word, Markdown or plain text, the same formats as the resume.
Read the letter before you send it. It is written from your resume and answers, and it can still get a detail wrong.
