How to tailor a devops engineer resume to the job

DevOps and platform posts are about automating delivery and keeping systems running. Show the pipelines and infrastructure you built and how they changed release speed or reliability.

What devops engineer posts usually ask for

Not every post asks for all of these, and the order changes. Check which ones the post you're applying to lists first or repeats.

  • CI/CD. The tool and what you built with it.
  • Cloud. AWS, GCP or Azure, with the services you used.
  • Infrastructure as code. Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi.
  • Containers. Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Monitoring and on-call. Alerts, dashboards, incident response.

What to put first

Lead with the infrastructure or pipeline change that made the biggest measurable difference.

A tailored line, before and after

Before: Managed the company's AWS infrastructure. Set up CI/CD pipelines. Used Terraform and Kubernetes.

After: Moved 40 services onto Kubernetes on AWS with Terraform and GitHub Actions, taking deploys from weekly to several a day.

The service count and deploy frequency were in the person's notes. The rewrite combines the tools into the result they produced. This is an invented example.

Gaps, and how to handle them honestly

  • A cloud you haven't used. Name the one you used and the equivalent services.
  • A certification. List it only if you hold it.

Posts often list more than the job needs. If you clearly show most of the main requirements, it's usually worth applying.

Wording that often appears in these posts

Use these where they describe what you've actually done, in sentences about that work. A list of terms you can't back up reads badly to recruiters, and they ask about every line in an interview.

Tailor yours to a real post

Paste the post you're applying to, and cvagent.ai lists what it asks for, marks which of those your resume shows, and rewrites your resume for it using only what's in your resume. Every change is shown next to your original, and anything it can't trace back to your resume is flagged. Or start with the free resume check, which needs no account and saves nothing.
